experiments.braids is a web client for Mastodon, designed to seamlessly incorporate user surveys about social media experiences with user browsing.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze how people perceive the content they see on social media.
Experiment: In this study, you will first spend some time browsing through your Mastodon feed, and then we will ask you some questions about your browsing experience. Please complete the entirety of the experiment in one sitting.
Compensation: The study is estimated to take 8-10 minutes to complete. We will compensate $5 (Zelle or Amazon.com gift card) to every participant. Participation requires a Mastodon account.
Data: We will use the data we collect during the study to help create a post re-ranking system that prioritizes what people actually want to see. We will experiment with using large language models, including Claude and GPT, for this purpose. We will de-identify your data before sending it to any services to protect your privacy.
Built by Jewel Merriman and Emmy Song, undergraduate students with the Princeton HCI Research Group.
We are currently only able to reimburse participants using Zelle or Amazon.com (US).
You must consent to the experiment to continue.
You may do so on the previous slide.
